On the occasion of World Hearing Day, the facility of Brain Evoked Response Audiometry (BERA)was inaugurated by Director Health Services, GMSH 16, Dr Suman Singh.
This test is available only in GMCH 32, PGI Chandigarh and only 2-3 medical colleges in the entire Punjab. GMSH 16 has now become one of the pioneers in this facility.
BERA TEST is basically an objective test who can detect congenital sensorineural hearing loss ,even in a new born baby so that immediate treatment can be planned like cochlear implant. The child hence can be given a dignified life rather than a hearing impaired life along with no speech development. from this, BERA is useful for every age group presenting profound hearing loss especially in patients of acoustic neuroma(tumour) which can be diagnosed and dealt with at the earliest.
“Previously we were referring such cases to PGI Chandigarh and patients had no choice but to undergo a very lengthy and tough procedure to get their BERA test to be done, now their screening can be done here,” said Dr Suman Singh.
GMSH-16 is a teaching hospital (DNB Students), so the students will also be be benefitted by this facility.
